William Edgar Rawls, Jr.

RAWLS, William Edgar "Ed" Jr., born April 9, 1947, died peacefully at his home in Richmond, Va. on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by the love of his family. Ed resided in Richmond, Va. with his wife of the last nine years, Kathryn Appler Rawls. In addition to his wife, Ed is survived by his two sons, Shaun and Ashley Rawls; stepdaughter, Kathryn Hornbaker and her husband, Andy Hornbaker; and six grandchildren, Noble, Steel, Connor, Lauren, Charlie and Virginia. Ed was the eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Edgar Rawls Sr. and he is survived by all of his siblings, Carol Grayson (Jim), Bob Rawls (Cheryle), Janet Harrelson (Alan) and Steve Rawls (Robin). Ed grew up in Jonesboro, Ga. He graduated from Jonesboro Senior High School in 1965 and he received his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Georgia in 1969. Ed entered the U.S. Army in 1969, where he served as a "Specialist 4" in the Vietnam War. He received an honorable discharge in 1971. Ed Rawls enjoyed a long, successful career and reputation in the automotive after-market industry. He began his career with Bishman Industries and Macon Rubber Company before he met his professional, life-long business partner, Archie Goodwin. Together, the two founded the Goodwin-Rawls Sales Company, which is now G.R.H. Sales Company. In 1984, Ed and two partners founded Accu Industries (Accu-Turn), an international supplier of automotive wheel service equipment. In 2008, Ed and two partners founded G.R.P. Enterprises, which imports and markets wheel service equipment throughout the U.S. In addition to his love of his family, friends and work, Ed has always enjoyed a love of motorcycles, a hobby that he shared with his closest friends and his two sons, Shaun and Ashley. Ed Rawls will forever be remembered for his sense of humor, his honest perspective, his love of life, family, friends and customers. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, February 13, 2015, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 1214 Wilmer Ave., Richmond, Va.
